New Blog

Thursday, August 28th, 2008 at about 12:55 pm

Well, along with our more settled life, we’ve upgraded our blogging software for some more functionality… so http://www.burtonadventures.com will now be new and hopefully improved. We will leave this blog up as an archive for the time being, as importing the old content is a tough thing. Thanks to Ben Cassel of www.focusapps.com for his work in helping me with this techy stuff!

Life

Saturday, July 26th, 2008 at about 5:52 pm

It’s Saturday, the 25th of July. Jenn has been here for a week and a half and boy time is flying way too fast! We’ve been on a few hikes, climbed a few rocks, and spent some quality time together with new friends in our new town.

I had a birthday in there, turned 36 and don’t feel like it at all. I still feel like a big kid, especially on my new motor-bike. I bought a 1970 Honda Trail 90 last week and it’s insured and street legal and ready for adventure! In keeping with how blessed life has been lately, my scooter back in Kentucky sold on the same day I bought the Trail 90, for $400 bucks more than I paid for the new bike.

Jenn started working at a local eatery/coffee shop called the rock rabbit. It’s a cool little hippie spot and she’s making decent money and good tips. We go for walks, we go to the library, we work, we play. It seems like maybe it’s for real and maybe it’ll last. We pray it does.

Next on the list: learning to fly fish. Did I mention that Pinedale…well… a river runs through it.

Home?

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008 at about 12:40 am

I found a place on Saturday and signed a lease on Monday. To commit to a year lease and a place that’s bigger than 300 square feet was odd after nearly two years of being a nomad. Still, it feels good to know we don’t have to move until we want to and that my job won’t end in a few short months. The job is going well so far. We had a kids climbing camp last week and this week we’re recoverring and getting stuff done.

Jenn joins me in just under two weeks, where we’ll see if this duplex and this town and this area will become home. I feel at home here, that’s for sure. Even if we don’t have any furniture.

Example: the first night in the new place, I moved everything out of the van and fixed myself a nice dinner of chicken breast and grilled vegetables. I got it all on my plate and promptly realized I didn’t have a chair nor table, so I sat on my bouldering pad and used a rubbermaid tote for a table.

I just visited the Tetons over a few days off and took a few photos. Here they are:
